International Visitors Arrival - December 2019

The total international visitor by air accounted for 34% of all international visitor arrivals to Vanuatu. Visitors by air increased by 19% over corresponding month in 2018 and also increased by 27% over the previous month. The increase over the corresponding period was attributed to the rise in the number of arrivals for holiday purposes.

Cruise ship or day visitors increased by 38% compared to December 2018 and also increased by 128% over the previous month. The increase was attributed to the increase in number of cruise ship visits from 7 in December 2018 to 10 cruise ships in December 2019.

Holiday visitors made up 83% of all international visitor arrivals to Vanuatu; followed by visiting friends and relatives at 8%, business, meetings or conferences at 4%, others, education or sports at 3% while visitors on stop-over at 1%.

Australian visitors accounted for 55% of all international visitors by air followed by New Caledonia at 13%, New Zealand at 11%, Europe at 8%, other pacific countries at 4%, China at 3%, North America and other countries at 2% each and Japan at 1%.

  Provincial Summary of Indicators

 Tafea received the highest number of visitors at 40%, followed by Sanma province at 38%.
 Visitors who travelled to outer islands spent an average of 7 days.
