International Visitors Arrival - August 2019
OVERVIEW
The total international visitor1 by air accounted for 59% of all international visitor arrivals to Vanuatu. Visitors by air increased by 37% over corresponding month in 2018 but fell by 3% over previous month. The increase over corresponding year was attributed by the increase in visitor arrivals to Vanuatu for holiday purposes.
Cruise ship or day visitors decreased by 22% compared to August 2018 and also fell by 22% over the previous month. This was attributed by the fall in number of cruise ship visit from 5 in August 2018 to 4 cruise ships in August 2019.
Average Length of stay
Holiday visitors made up 77% of all international visitor arrivals to Vanuatu; followed by visiting friends and relatives and business, meetings or conferences at 8% each, visitors on others, education or sports at 7% while visitors on stop over at less than 1%..
Australian visitors accounted for 46% of all international visitors by air followed by New Zealand at 17%, New Caledonia at 11%, Europe at 8%, Other pacific countries at 6%, China and other countries at 4% each, North America at 3% and Japan at 1%.
Provincial Summary of Indicators
Sanma received the highest number of visitors at 37%,followed by Tafea province at 35%.
Visitors who travelled to outer islands spent an average of 5 days.
